I was hoping for the nuclear aircraft carrier. So much for my geek cred!

TIL that CVN-65 was the second aircraft carrier of its name, and there will be a third in 2028.

The first: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(CV-6)

The future third: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Enterprise_(CVN-80)

That's adequately awesome, thanks!

I've bought Haynes manuals for several cars and motorcycles, but I had no idea they could be so cheeky.

Alas, I expect CVN-80 to be the last of the aircraft carrier vessels of the US Navy, so it's fitting it should be called "Enterprise".

They're expecting to go to (at least) -82:

I have to dig up the TNG Technical Manual, that was amazing.

Fun fact: The scene in Star Trek: Generations of (spoilers follow)

the saucer section crash-landing on a planet was directly inspired by a section of the TNG technical manual which explained how the saucer section could make a controlled landing on a planet in an emergency situation.

I got the Starfleet Technical Manual. It's pretty sweet. Gotta figure out where it is.

They also have manuals for the X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and Millennium Falcon:

I don't think I'd buy a used one, anyway; this manual being available is nice but can you get the parts? I don't even want to think about the tax and license issues...

The warp drive on these tend to run into this issue where faster than speed of light travel becomes possible leading to all sorts of catastrophic failure events in the known universe. I'd get the slower model.

Is this an ad? This book is far from new, and this post simply links to a place you can buy it.

Haynes — the linked site — are the publisher, and make real manuals like this for many many cars

I need to get this for my Uncle, he's a huge Star Trek fan and a machinist.
